Around Us

Writing this after a 7-month hiatus!

I started this blog with through-the-roof energy and let it slide, like any master procrastinator. I told my friends I was outta ideas - while partly true, it was just the usual dilly-daller in me that kept me from typing.

Struggled to pick a topic first, and then I actually looked around. There they were, peeps of all sorts. Observing people has always been a thing. Run a quick scan - you might be able to peek at the algorithm within.

What's seeable? 👁

Body language, appearance, behaviour, dressing - anything that makes us human. Look 👀

By now, you may have classified me as "judgy"... but judging involves forming a (usually harsh) opinion. The judgers among us hv all day - shit talking about anyone who's not with them...what's ironic is when they call others judgmental. Some are also champions at side-eyeing.

Observation ain't opinionated - it's simple facts. Get an observation right, the feelin' is satisfying. Better than judging all day, eh?

Consider those who like talking about their problems. A Problem-ponderer pulls a long face, eyebrows raised. They ramble about their woes, broken by periods of silence. Offer them a solution, console them -you are in for a repeat episode. They'll then cuddle up to like-minded folks in lil circles, drop their heads, n go over it again. 🙆😶

We are social animals, we sit together in groups. A combo of different people. A group conversation has an include-all ... trying to get everyone involved. This guy will conduct the convo, (sometimes a wanna-be alpha guy). Some can't be bothered... chilling back with their phones with vacant bliss.

(A silent majority of us spend more time with our earbuds n neckbands, than actual people)

An attention seeker meanwhile will cook up some absurd convo, whimpering for no apparent reason. Occasionally we meet moral compasses...seemingly good to all, walking a fine line...(stay outta arguments, no-bitching goodie-goodie :-| )

It's not always about individuals, one can see templates too. All of us are moulded in a certain way, we owe this to those we grew up around.

Picture Pune with its self-obsessed areas:

The "Kothrud cohort" for e.g. has its giveaways... talk-a-thons include traffic, engineering, "chapri crowd ", and a whiff about politics - all in शुद्ध मराठी. Some may brag about martinis in an XYZ K.P. bar but haven't quite got over Durga Coffee!

As we move on we meet more people, different people, from different moulds. We need it to find more about ourselves, another lot to observe ;)

...

My (not-so-coherent) thought train ran on a candid track today. If any of this was relatable, it was also offensive?  👍:)

Apologies and thanks!

Of all the ‘types’ of people talked about, we as humans take cues from all of them. We are a blend of different qualities…making us unique…making life interesting...

After all,

"सवाल ये नहीं है की आपकी आंखों के सामने क्या है, सवाल ये है की आप देख क्या रहे हो ..!"

(Who all saw the movie?)

Lemme know your observations about this post, also stuff I could write abt next!

AN ENRICHING MONSOON

What's Goa to you? Well, what it is for everyone -  beaches, drinks n well - u know 😉 🍺🍹😎🏖️ Was lucky to discover a side of Goa, quite unheard of - A  monsoon trek to Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary , North Goa with YHAI.  Cushioned by the Western Ghats n studded with sparklin' waterfalls - the jungle is a paradise. Any more description would still fall short of appreciating it, no cap :) Won't speak for Mumbaikars, but all others experienced rain first-hand. (TRUE RAIN) The organisers warned us that raincoats were useless and they were right.  Justice to the phrase:  When it rains, it pours .  ....if you can't avoid it, embrace it! ⛈️🌦️ Not once in those 5 days did we actually bathe, I can now say that I am practically immune to rain. Surprisingly no sardi-khokla cases came up. The lesson - Given the chance don't mind gettin' wet 😏 And the waterfalls? A lifetime's worth of those. Bow before the force, let the water splash upon ur face and feel the bliss...

A SNAKE TO REMEMBER

A SNAKE TO REMEMBER🐍 On the second floor of our ancient apartment building, lived ancient Mrs (Dr) M. The 80-year-old lived alone, with occasional visits from her children. She wasn't actually alone – she had plenty of visitors throughout the day, including the milkman, neighbours to other pensioner friends who dropped by. With mischievous beady eyes and a sweet tongue – totally grandma material. Then her son suggested she keep paying guests – college girls. The experiment worked initially; Mrs M was seemingly adjustable. But soon, it just became a revolving door for those girls. Most didn’t last a week! The problem? Her flat. Packed with stuff. Old trunks, furniture, books – and even curtains. The rooms looked like dull sad museums. No place to move around. What everyone called garbage, she called memories. She wouldn’t get rid of it. Hence, no one stayed – better breathe on the street than suffocate in that dump. Along came girl no. 11 . 11 was cheerful and outgoing. She often r...
